Packaging & Transportation Options

SHIPMENT OF ARTWORKS
- INFORMATION FOR CUSTOMERS -

We are glad to assist you in packaging and arranging transportation of your artworks, on your behalf, to most destinations around the world. The transport companies use air cargo (this is the quickest and most reliable method) and the cost depends on the volumetric weight of the item including packaging and not only the physical weight. It takes up to four (4) weeks to arrive in the destination country, however most items are delivered in under two (2) weeks.

There are three packaging options:
In all instances we will recommend the most suitable option of packing for your specific artwork.

• Custom-Crated:
A custom-crate is specifically made for the artwork to be transported in. This offers excellent protection for international transportation as the crate is very strong and sturdy. However this is also the most expensive as, aside from the additional cost of manufacturing the custom-crate, the crate increases the finished size and weight of the package considerably. This method is specifically recommended for transportation of sculptures and very large paintings.
• Flat-Pack with Cardboard:
We package the artwork securely in bubble wrap and card-board to make a secure box. This option is used most often (this is our standard option) and offers good protection for transport without the additional cost of custom-crating and the cost for transportation is less than the custom-crate option due to final size and weight. We will package the artwork using this method at no additional charge. We consistently use this method successfully to transport thousands of artworks.
• Removed from the stretcher frame and Tubed:
Depending on the paint technique and finish of an unframed canvas painting, we can remove the canvas from the stretcher frame, roll and then place it into a protective cardboard tube. This greatly reduces the risk of damage to the painting (the tube is very strong) and it significantly reduces the dimensions of the package and therefore the cost of transporting it. We will package the artwork using this method at no additional charge. It is then a simple task for your local framer to re-stretch the canvas upon delivery in your hometown.

Based on your choice of packaging regarding the above, there are two delivery methods:

 Door–to–Door:
This is the more expensive but more convenient method as it involves two transport companies – one to get the parcel to your country's international airport and another one to collect it and transport it to your door.
• Door–to–Terminal:
This is cheaper and involves delivering the item to your nearest major airport, from where you can collect the parcel directly yourself or arrange for a courier company to collect and bring it to your door.

We will estimate the measurements of the final package, including the packaging, and will obtain the most efficient quote from three different reliable transport companies. We will then inform you via email of the best quote and will request your confirmation to charge you accordingly. Once your payment has reflected, we will despatch the packaged artwork. The transportation company will keep you informed of its progress thereafter, via email. Once it arrives at in your country you will be contacted to either collect the artwork (door–to–terminal) or to arrange to deliver the artwork to your home or office (door–to–door).

What you need to know:

VAT – if we ship the painting for you, we can take off our local VAT tax on this side. The cost of the overseas shipping also excludes VAT.

Duties / Taxes in your own country – please note that there maybe some VAT / local taxes / duty on importation in your own country. We have no way of knowing what these charges will be and the transport charges quoted exclude these amounts.

Insurance – Insurance is not standard and is additional at 1.5% of the value of the artwork purchased. Please specifically request if you choose to take out insurance.

Delays – we are not responsible for any delays, damage or loss due to the use of third parties used to transport the artworks on your behalf. Please note that if you delay collecting your parcel from the airport once you have been contacted, you maybe charged a storage fee by the airport.

What we need:

Your full delivery address, two daytime telephone numbers and an email address to contact you on once the parcel has arrived.

We have successfully shipped artworks around the world for many years and assure you of our best service at all times.
