Still Life Paintings South Africa

Still life paintings usually depict inanimate objects such as fruit, food, plants or even jewellery. Traditional themes are still used in modern still lifes, such as bowls of fruit, cups and saucers and flowers in vases. Still lifes were discovered amongst ancient Egyptian funerary objects and historians believe that the foodstuffs and other items depicted therein would, in the afterlife, become real and available for use by the deceased.

Popular still life paintings by South African artists including Mauro Chiarla, Duggie du Toit, Kenneth Baker and Arthur Cantrell, amongst others.
