LENE PIENAAR
Born 1976 – Pretoria, South Africa
Lené concentrates on the refinement of beauty whether it be in representation of the human form or in the portrayal of wildlife. Her use of colour and line is quite sublime. It echoes her belief that beauty exists in its simplicity and naturalism.
In general her palette is muted with use of dark browns and blacks as counter points to flesh and skin tones. Many of her works exude a spirituality which also reaches deep down into Lené’s being and Christian beliefs, what she regards the very essence of life – portrayals of intimate moments.
“Through my works, I hope to lure the viewer to mentally revisit their personal creed by provoking thoughts and memories of the handful of truly precious things in life. What is not said is as important as what is said.”
Of her technique, Lené comments, “I strive to uphold my personal art values, namely competent technique and expression using lighting and composition. I pay particular attention to proportions and accuracy of form and line.” Lené is a Fine Art honours graduate who has worked as a graphic designer in addition to lecturing at various universities.
Since January 2000 Lené has devoted herself to her art full time and the collectable rewards become ever more pleasing. Lené’s work is very collectable aesthetically and as an investment in beauty and values for the future.
In 2004 she was one of only four South Africans chosen from 87 worldwide to partake in the unity Series of limited edition prints for the Mandela Trust. Although some controversy has surrounded the launch in Davos, Switzerland in October 2004, this did not stop the demand for Lene’s work whose prints were the first to sell out completely.
