NATASHA MULUNDU
BORN CHINGOLA, ZAMBIA
Natasha was born and raised in the little dusty town of Chingola, Zambia. As a young girl she loved to paint and draw and it wasn’t long before she started to express herself through art, which soon played a central role in defining who she was and where she was going in life.
After High School, Natasha was given the opportunity to study at the Evelyn Hone College of Applied Arts & Commerce and three years later, earned a secondary school art teachers diploma. After graduation, Natasha taught art as a subject and later joined the Zambia National Visual Artists Association, where she was rated as one of Zambia’s top ten female artists in 1999.
Natasha’s current works are those of abstract landscapes, seeing weather-over-land as a mirror of human emotions. In her latest works, Natasha has captured and expressed the movement of water, wind and clouds over landscapes, depicting different moods. The mediums used range from oils, acrylics and glass paint on canvas, although she loves to experiment to achieve different textures with sand, bee’s wax, paper mache and anything else she can use without compromising the quality of her work.
Portraiture has always been Natasha’s first love, constantly refining her technique with every piece and choosing her subjects very carefully. Her works are never rushed and therefore every piece she starts becomes a labour of love, with extra attention paid to poetic emotions.
Natasha hopes to continue exhibiting in and around central and Southern Africa. Her aspiration is to eventually have her works exhibited world wide, and through her work become an ambassador for Africa. With each exhibition, Natasha feels the need to further explore different ideas and expressions through different media and techniques.
“In the same way that we have seen other great artist’s get there, I want to role model for anyone who cares to take note, that it can be done. You can materialise your dreams.”
