Peter Jander was born in 1954 and grew up in Newlands, Cape Town. He was educated at SACS, which was daunting enough in itself, as only an academic education was offered.
Circumstances allowed Peter to become a full time artist after a short career as a physical training instructor. With the exception of lessons with highly acclaimed artist, Arthur Mant, on colour mixing methods, he is completely self-taught.
This South African artist’s landscape painting style has evolved into an impressionistic style and he works in oils, acrylic and pastel and enjoys producing big works, in particular extensive landscapes and garden scenes.
The word "artist" has never seemed appropriate to Peter, as he regards his painting career as the product of his love for the environment combined with his talent for painting, and therefore prefers to be referred to simply as a "landscape painter".
