“After finishing Art College in 1968, I started my own pottery business making hand-thrown stoneware. Although I enjoyed pottery, my greatest passion was for fine art, and on moving to Sweden, I now had the surroundings and the time in which to follow this interest. I never returned to pottery and have been painting ever since both in the UK and in South Africa, where I have lived for the past nine years with my two daughters.
I teach oil painting from home and have studied with Michael Petit and Greg Carr in recent years. Painting is a major part of my life. I love colour and paint mainly in oils. The vineyards, farms, hills and mountains are favourite subjects of mine. I like to use fruit and vegetables as a starting point for the exploration of colour and design. I love the work of abstract expressionists like Nicholas de Stael, Franz Kline and Jackson Pollock but end up being influenced in my own work more by Cezanne, van Gough and South African artist Lindsell Stewart whose work I adore.
I am pleased that my art has developed and evolved into work of which I am proud. Further I am encouraged that important galleries are supporting my ideals.”
