About the Artist

German-born designer Thomas Hoffmann is passionate about living life to the fullest. He delights in the amazing diversity of the world around him and these are the two driving forces that fuel his fantasies.
 

• 1956:     Thomas was born in Neunkirchen, Germany
• 1973– 83: Decorator to Kaufhof AG, Munich (one of Kaufhof’s most reputable and successful flagship stores). During this period Thomas also studied design in Munich
• 1983–85: Leader of design & product development team for Korzilius, a leading glass and ceramics wholesaler
• 1985–86: Head Decorator and Team Manager for Kettering, a fashion design company  
• 1985: Thomas holds his first exhibition of his own works in South Western Germany, displaying a range of statues and dolls, created in a variety of materials
• 1988: Tom opens his own company, known then and today as Tom’s Company, located in Landsweiler, Germany
• 1988–01: Tom has created designs for interior accessories, Bel Etáge and furnishings that span different styles and periods
• 2001: Following the terrible “9/11” disaster which struck New York in 2001, while the world tried to come to terms with a darker side of life, Tom was inspired to create a few statues and ornaments to give to friends that Christmas, to encourage them to smile once again. This was the birth of Tom’s ‘Drag Collection’
• 2002: Tom and his team set out to create a ‘premier edition’ which was shown for the first time at the Frankfurt Tendance fair. The immediate success and overwhelming positive feedback inspired Tom to develop new collections and to begin the path of designing a range of products with new editions being released al the time
• 2002 - present: The drag collection continues to grow in popularity with several new collections: each with their own unique styling but  continuing the theme of “fun, happiness and colourful creations”
• 2003: current Tom’s company is expanding globally, with new artist-inspired collections constantly being released, such as the latest Diamond Collection, made with Swarovski crystals
• 2004: Collaboration with the Volkswagen Club. Tom creates an extraordinary Club Edition of exciting car miniatures
• 2005: In the meantime, the "Drags" have spread across the world, from Düsseldorf to Tokyo, from New York to the South African art scene
• The 2003 design ‘winged seat’ appeared at the Cannes Film Festival.
• Since 2005  Fashion accessories range launched
   

Tom’s Drag Collection

Following the terrible “9/11” disaster which struck New York in 2001, while the world tried to come to terms with a darker side of life, Thomas Hoffmann was inspired to create a few statues and ornaments to give to friends that Christmas, to encourage them to smile once again. This was the birth of the “Tom’s Drag Collection“.

Interesting and quirky designs, embellished with bright and bold hand-paintings – right down to 24 carat gold leaf to add a touch of glam to these already statement works – make every piece of the range a unique artwork of meticulous handcraftsmanship. Made from either a hard and durable baked resin composite or fine porcelain, then hand-painted, each piece of the collection has a personality of its own.

Tom's Drag Collection is a unique and design-oriented range of collectables offered in four different styles: country, colonial, modern and Asian – around the themes of "Playing with identities" and "Transformation and irritation".

Thanks to their versatility, Tom’s Drag Collection is at home in various upmarket settings, they enrich and compliment both classic-traditional and modern-contemporary styles.
